It may have to go . . .

If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it. Or, if proper usage gets in the way, it may have to go. I can’t allow what we learned in English composition to disrupt the sound and rhythm of the narrative.

Heres the email I received, sorry Mary Jaksch, Editor-in-Chief, WritetoDone.com, I couldn’t work out how to reblog as I couldn’t find the blog:

Mary Jaksch writes: Are you enjoying your Easter break? I hope so!

Here is a book about how to build your online audience that will intrigue and inspire you – and it’s free (but only until Monday).

I’ll tell you more about it in a moment. But first, here’s a question for you:

What do Copyblogger, Netflix, Seth Godin, Jeff Walker, and Randy Gage all have in common?

And more importantly, how can YOU learn from their successes?

To answer both of these questions, you need to understand what they intuitively grasped years ago… that the traditional model of “create and offer, and then find a buyer” is hopelessly obsolete.

Today’s online world is one of infinite choice, with millions of businesses vying for your customer’s attention.

And we’ve all been there: if someone isn’t made uniquely for you, why would you buy it?

In this crowded marketplace, the solution is to build an audience FIRST, and create the offer LATER. It sounds backwards, but it’s really the only way to do business online – ad you know I wouldn’t say that lightly

But I’ve read the writing on the wall, and it’s true. Except that the writing isn’t actually on a wall, it’s in my friend Danny Iny’s new book, The Audience Revolution. It’s part manifesto and part field-guide to this new paradigm of business, and until April 6th, he’s giving it away for free (no shipping, or anything like that):

Click here to get Danny’s book The Audience Revolution at no cost whatsoever.

Danny is the founder of Firepole Marketing, and he’s done more than just study these “Audience First” principles; he’s applied them to go from a quarter of a million dollars in debt to a multiple-seven-figure business, in just a few years.

And the #1 thing that Danny attributes his remarkable success to is the driven and passionate community that he’s built around Firepole.

In The Audience Revolution, Danny deconstructs his own success, and the successes of many other well-known marketers, consultants, authors, and businesses. And trust me, if you ever wanted to know how to build an online business with complete integrity and zero “sleaze”, you absolutely need to read this book.

Click here to get Danny’s book The Audience Revolution (free until April 6th)

It’s a quick read, especially considering how insanely valuable it is. I can’t recommend it enough.

Just remember, it’s only free until April 6th, and while it’s totally worth paying for, why not get it for free when you have the chance? 😉

So enjoy the book, and join the revolution!

And if you don’t want to take advantage of any free stuff by Danny Iny, please click here, and we won’t bother you again with this.

Personally, I love the Danny’s book. It’s well worth reading.

Warmly
Mary

Living The Dream Part 2

Good points to remember.

Keep yourself encouraged. ‘Keep on keeping on’ don’t get sidetracked. Those things that seem so important are not really in the long run? Are they? You know the answer deep down, but when you refuse to admit it you are in real danger of wasting not only weeks, months, but years from completing your book. Is that what you really want?

Is what you are doing getting you closer or further away from your dream?

We all need a prod every now and then because what we are replacing our time with, in hindsight seems so ridiculous now!

“The successful warrior is the average man, with lazer focus.” Bruce Lee.

It’s very difficult to stay motivated for authors if what they constantly look at has nothing to do with it. Are you checking out other writers blogs, reading, jotting down ideas, googling ways to inspire and improve yourself? Because what you put in front of your eyes has more of an influence on you that we would like to admit. That’s why advertising is so successful.

Joel Olsteen a famous author before he was published said he would place an opened book of his father’s on the hallway table where he had to walk by and see it every day, to remind himself that he could be a successful author. Distractions get in the away, even when you get up early.

Just as you go to work each day dedicate a time to write each day, it could…

Living The Dream Part 1

There are many things to break your focus this is a good reminder to keep on top of it.

A.M. Simpson's avatarAM Simpson

There are many things that can get in your way whether its outright time wasters, genuine emergencies or a young family just to name a few. There is always something to take you away from writing or some other thing that you have set your mind on doing. We have good reasons and even better intentions, but a year down the track where do you want to be in life? Not just financially but spiritually, emotionally, socially, fitness and health wise? I heard it said and I don’t remember the source, it’s not original, that ‘if you haven’t changed in a year it’s because you haven’t read enough good books.’ Books do change you.

The perfect time to do the things you love that will in turn get you to your goals is now.

Take time during the day to do that one thing that you wanted. It’s not a…

Conversational Writing: 10 Tips by Leo Babauta

Occasionally I find advice from writers that has to be shared.

Quote: Conversational speech doesn’t follow the rules of formal writing. You can start a sentence with “and” or “but” … you can have run-on sentences from time-to-time, and use ellipses.

Writing Inspiration

Easy parts over. Good to know others also feel this way! Maybe we just look at it too much, and after having a break from writing, we can come with somewhat fresh eyes.

Inspiration for Writers

I found this great blog to inspire me to write and create. It is hard work that’s true, but (there’s always a but). It can also be fun. It’s so easy to become frustrated with lack of progress. But if you identify that ‘thing’ in your life that always seems to rear its ugly head and tries to stop you. In my opinion, it can’t have been a waste of time. The thing is to keep on, rid your life of what’s hindering you and move on. If you just improve a little each day, it doesn’t have to be a huge amount, any little improvement will do. You will eventually find that the book is finished !!

What comes against you when you try to write?

What’s your plan the next time it happens?

Stormy weather on a city streetWriting is hard work! When we think we’ve got it figured out an editor or trusted friend lets us know there are still plot holes. Maybe we realize we left out key elements, missed tying up a loose end, or we just put our head on our desk and stay there the rest of the day. Here’s some encouragement, keep writing and don’t give up!

I try to create sympathy for my characters, then turn the monsters loose. – Stephen King

Prose is architecture, not interior decoration. – Ernest Hemingway

It’s none of their business that you have to learn to write. Let them think you were born that way. – Ernest Hemingway

We are all apprentices in a craft where no one ever becomes a master. —Ernest Hemingway

Who do you run with? The doomsayers or the encouragers?

Who do you run with? The doomsayers or the encouragers? Personally I hope I will always have encouragers in my life, and be one myself, not merely a shallow yes person.

Do you have a writer buddy who will encourage you when you’re feeling less than encouraged to persevere?

Do you belong to a constructive writing group, or one that leaves you feeling less than worthy, if so get out – quick! you won’t last the distance. It matters who you associate with if you want to make it and makes sense to follow a worthy blogger who will encourage and motivate you and helps you achieve your goals.

Writers are one of the best breed of people! They are usually generous, helpful and truly want to help you grow into what you were meant to write. I am always amazed at how generous true writers are with their time and expertise. They are smart enough to know that there is more than enough to go around for everybody just look at the variety of writers in the world!

We are all unique, and we all have a place. So write that which you know you were meant to write. The most important thing is have fun doing it, know it’s okay to enjoy your life. It’s more than okay, it’s a necessity to have absolute fun along the way!

Why Write ?

Rewrite, don’t use too many adverbs, use first person, don’t use third . . . do this, don’t do that. I hear my mother in the background saying the same thing don’t! Why can’t we just write what we feel? Isn’t that what writings all about? If it doesn’t free us why do it? Get it out on paper then figure it out later, learning as you grow.

Enjoy your life and your uniqueness because there is only one you, there has never been anyone like you nor will there ever be another like you.

Agatha Christie the best-selling author of all time, after the Bible and William Shakespeare said she had fun writing her novels. Make sure you have fun too! Don’t let joy stealers hijack it and have you come down so hard on yourself making you believe it’s not up to par. After all it’s your artwork!

What makes you feel pressured and hinders your creativity? What’s your remedy?

Declutter!

In the end you can’t think! How does it sneak up? Before you know it, not only is the back room cluttered, but your mind as well.

Well, having come back from our first real long holiday. I can say, now I’m back, I’m gun ho, ready to go, out with the old and hold back with the new – unless it’s to do with writing!

Like a good holiday. Grey cell health starts with your surroundings!

What’s on your list!
