I found this interesting article on the future of ebooks and paper back. I believe it holds some truth, personally find the old fashioned method of reading suits me best, and conducive to my lifestyle. Waterstone’s founder Tim Waterstone says that the ebook revolution is over.
The Guardian reports that Waterstone, who founded the British bookstore chain in 1982, gave an impassioned speech about the future of books at Oxford Literary Festival. It’s in the interests of ebook publishers to perpetuate the notion that the paperback is dead: More information: Click Here and Click Here

11 Frequently Asked Questions About Book Royalties, Advances and Money
Knowledge is Power: I came across this information, as there seem to be so many choices out there, and I hate the idea of being ‘ripped off’.

If you’re going to wheel and deal with literary agents and editors, you’ll end up spending more time than you’d like discussing rights, contracts, advances, royalties and a whole lot of other important stuff. That said, I want to address the most common questions regarding how advances and royalties work. In other words, how does the payment process work when you sell a book?
Here are some FAQs:
1. How do writers make money?
You sign a contract with a publisher. In exchange for signing over the North American and English language print rights to your book and possibly other rights, as well, you are paid one of three ways:
- flat fee: a set amount of money upfront that’s yours to keep. The amount does not change no matter how well the book sells. For example, if your flat fee is $10,000, the amount remains the same…

What’s Your Writing Routine?
I came across this interesting post. Even though these routines are not for everyone, it’s important to find what works for you. You are training yourself physiologically and physically, like with any profession 🙂

Do you have a routine for writing? A way of doing it which has become habit and which you know will get the best out of you? I was thinking about this having read a recent article on the subject.
Many famous writers seem to have these habits. I think the reason is that, to write a novel you need to get your backside on the chair and your fingers on the keyboard – regularly and for long periods of time, just to get the work done. I know only too well that novels don’t write themselves.
Here’s what the brilliant Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami had to say on the subject in an interview:
“When I’m in writing mode for a novel, I get up at four a.m. and work for five to six hours. In the afternoon, I run for ten kilometers or swim for fifteen hundred meters (or do…

Take A Break
It’s the start of winter here in Australia. The grass is greener, the day’s are shorter, the nights are longer. Appreciate where we are, as so many are not as fortunate at the moment in different parts of the world and are unable to enjoy a peaceful life.
Research shows that by simply taking a drive in the country and seeing greenery is a wonderful way to rejuvenate and nurture your creative skills.
Brain Food Final Part 2
Recently on the news it was reported that a lack of sleep actually causes a degree of brain damage, so getting enough sleep is important.
If we don’t drink enough water but wait until we get thirsty it’s a definite sign that we are already dehydrated. Water is also needed for blood circulation without adequate amounts it thickens and causes the heart to strain, the heart is then expected to pump thick honey like consistency through its chambers.
Whey powder is another miracle food, has many benefits and am absolutely in love with it.
Cod Liver Oil – unpleasant as it is, (is available in capsules) has startling benefits to the brain, skin, bones. Click Here.
New recommendations for Cod Liver Oil in regards to the ratio of Vitamin D and E could be harmful if not taking the correct amount. Carlson’s seem to be the best brand: Click Here.
Juicing green leafy vegetables, carrots, apple and beetroot can make you look younger, can reverse even chronic fatigue in some according to the famous Cherie Calbom, Juice Lady. (Too much fruit is not good for the sugar content.) Click Here.
Breast cancer can be a Vitamin D3 deficiency and literally only costs cents a month to supplement your diet, again do your research and don’t just grab a bottle of the supermarket shelf. Take into account what part of the world you live, your diet and whether you get enough sun etc.
Natural Vitamin E that contains all its components is still the best antioxidant, but taking the popular type sold in stores that contains only one component can actually do more harm than good. Dr. Mercola Click Here.
Medical professionals are great if you need medication or an operation, they are not required to learn about natural supplements or diet. Naturopaths are useful. I am not saying that you shouldn’t go to your GP but just be wise.
I am not a health expert, this information is common knowledge neither suggesting for anyone to replace proven medical treatment in favor of natural remedies, or go off their medication. Just be informed and keep an open mind.

Brain Food Part 1
Brain Food
Part One of Two Part Series
Having a healthy brain we would all agree is important, one of my passions is looking into truths about foods and vitamins. Everyone has their Achilles heel when it comes to health, but some foods you thought were bad may in fact be good. Look at butter for instance. So-called health experts were touting the evils of it not so long ago, and salt – well that was from the very devil himself or so we were led to believe!
When I was growing up it was considered folly to use salt in cooking or sprinkle it on your food. Now we’re told to add it to just about everything – now it’s supposed to be imperative to good cooking, bringing out flavour and sealing in meat juices. In reality if we don’t have salt the body will die, we don’t need a lot, but we definitely do need it. Celtic Sea Salt is better as it hasn’t been adulterated like common table salt. Butter will not give you breast cancer like most margarine and now we are allowed to eat eggs which has every vitamin except for vitamin C.
We’ve even been duped as far as cholesterol and it’s relation to some fats. Doctors are not required to learn about nutrition, so seek a second opinion and consult a naturopath. Don’t readily accept what legal drug pushers advise as one year they will tell you to have a glass a wine with your evening meal every day, the next they’re saying it’s destroying people’s organs and they’re alcoholics. By the way we didn’t hear an apology after they recklessly blasted that all over the media.
The Solution?
One of the best brain food is coconut oil and it’s one of the few foods that can truly be classed as a superfood. It contains good cholesterol, something the so-called ‘health experts’ made a mistake when they released the wrong message some years ago, but did’nt correct. In fact coconut oil helps with serum cholesterol in all areas of the brain and helps with conditions such as autism, Alzheimer’s, serious mental problems such as depression, bipolar and worse.
I’m not a health expert, all of this information is common knowledge. I’m not advocating anyone to go off their medication, but to seek a second opinion and to consult a naturopath or dietician, as doctors are not required to learn about nutrition.

Five Questions an Editor Will Ask of Your Novel
I found this post quite interesting and useful, with the same issues I had wondered about. Like editing, the narrator’s role, and how much does one obsess with editing.

Why not join us for the Editing Boot Camp to learn more?
I should start this blog post by saying that good editors will ask you more than five questions about your novel, but I’ve chosen the following issues in particular as they can be the hardest to fix if left until the end of the writing–editing process.
It’s not going to be your main aim as an author to please an editor, of course, or to make an editor’s life easier (although the editor will love you for it if you do), but it’s always good to anticipate some of the editor’s questions. That’s because you and the editor have a common goal: to make your novel the best version of itself it can possibly be. The questions an editor asks of your manuscript are the same that you should ask of it, rather than…

Lost and Found
When our beloved family cat went missing a few weeks ago, I was so surprised at how frantic I felt. There was something wrong because he never goes away for a whole day and night. I know it’s a common saying ‘we don’t realize how much things mean to us until they are gone.’ But, oh how true.
My suspicions were right, and cutting a long story short, he was found thanks to his microchip. He had spent the night accidentally locked in a room of a public building. They said when they opened the door in the morning he was sitting in the middle of the table making the most terrible noise, crying his eyes out. I thought that’s my boy, a real little show cat.
Animal control carted him off in a cage, and when I saw him in the cage he started meowing; his sweet innocent little face replaced with an older, wiser and not so happy little cat. I swept him up and held him in my arms all the way home and he slowly turned back into his happy little self again.
He is such a character, he rolls over, comes and stays on command just like a dog, sleeps on his back with rabbit paws. What is it about certain cats with personality plus that seem to be able to tap into our affections? Is it their unique extroverted expressions that invokes a sense of tenderness within ourselves capturing our imaginations and love? A sense that all is right in our corner of the world when we know our beloved pets are well and happy?
Have you ever had a pet go missing? Did you find them again?
Living The Dream Part 2
“The successful warrior is the average man, with lazer focus.” Bruce Lee.
It’s very difficult to stay motivated for authors if what they constantly look at has nothing to do with it. Are you checking out other writers blogs, reading, jotting down ideas, googling ways to inspire and improve yourself? Because what you put in front of your eyes has more of an influence on you than we would like to admit. That’s why advertising is so successful.
Joel Olsteen a famous author said he would place an opened book of his father’s on the hallway table where he had to walk by and see it every day, to remind himself that he could be a successful author.
Just as you go to work each day dedicate a time to write each day, it could become repetitious, but at least you wont forget your own characters. Your reward is when you have a good day having written a satisfactory amount in your own estimation, not in others.
Deliberately think about writing throughout the day, jot down ideas and look them over later, reinforce confidence in your abilities you are an author and you can do this. A true author will be rewarded by doing what they know they were meant to do – write.
There is so much out there to help. I discovered a good site the other day to help with writing motivation click here.
Also thanks to the people who helped me find this post that I accidentally deleted as it miraculously reappeared back in my drafts.
